Tess Harding

Tess Harding was an alien-human hybrid created with the DNA of Jolene Skarrstin and the murdered Queen Ava of the planet Antar. Appearing in the town of Roswell nearly ten years after Max, Michael, and Isabel emerged from the pods, Tess became Liz's chief rival for Max's affections and eventually the mother of his son.

History

Fictional character summaryEdit Tess came to Earth with the other hybrids: Max Evans, Isabel Evans and Michael Guerin, but left her pod after they left theirs. They are clones of dead royalty, known as the Royal Four, from the planet Antar. She was raised by another alien, Nasedo, who had apparently been sent to Earth to protect them. However, he had made a deal with Kivar (the enemy of the Royal Four) 40 years before: return home with Max's son (with Tess' help) and deliver Max, Michael and Isabel to Kivar, who would have killed them. Eventually, Tess is the one who completes part of the deal, as Nasedo dies at the beginning of season two. When first introduced in the series, Tess appears to be obsessed with Max and fulfilling her destiny by being with him. However, at the end of season two, her true goal and purpose is revealed: to return to Antar pregnant with Max's child

Ava of Antar

In her previous life, Tess was known as Ava. She was the queen of Antar, married to Zan (Max's former self). She appears to be the only one of the four hybrids with any memory of their previous lives, although this is not made clear. Since the Roswell hybrids are supposed to have less access to their memories than the New York hybrids, it's possible that Tess's "memories" are stories told to her by Nasedo.

Notable Powers:

Leptokinesis: The ability to manipulate molecular structures. As well as being an ability in itself it also sets the base for lots of other alien powers. Tess has used this to change the colour of paint on a wall and fix a broken vase. Mindwarping: The ability to alter memories, create illusions and cause limited mind control. This is Tess' primary and unique alien power. She is the only known alien to possess it. Telekinesis: The ability to move objects and people with the mind. Tess has used this power a few times.

Tess and her duplicate Ava, were both cloned from an alien named Ava, and given part of her 'essence' that supposedly would pass on her memories.

Tess was in an incubation pod from 1947 to 1989, and when she broke out, the shapeshifter known as Ed Harding was waiting for her. Max, Michael and Isabel had already ‘hatched’ and left her in her pod.

It is never mentioned but we assume that when Tess came out of her pod, she appeared to be six years old like the others.

Little is known about Tess’ early life. She tells the others that she and Nasedo were hunted all of her life. How this is possible I’m not sure, unless Nasedo was completely incompetent and kept leading the Special Unit right to them.

Tess tells Isabel that they moved around a lot. It is unknown if that is part of her ‘cover’ story when she first comes to town or if it is true.

She seems to be quite a flirt, telling Liz that she dated a lot of guys but never been in love. She goes out with Kyle, flirting with him just to get Max’s attention. She claims that she and Max shared a great love in their other life. She tries to seduce Max several times by sending him images and dreams of them together, forcing him to kiss her, and throwing herself at him on a few occasions even though he says he isn’t interested. She doesn’t take no for an answer.

Tess feels that humans are inferior, probably because it was taught to her by her protector, and has learned not to value Earthly things because it isn’t her true home. She believes that all that matters is Max, Michael and Isabel and most importantly, going home.

She is known to be intelligent, seductive, determined, manipulative, and dismissive of most humans. But living without her family has made her lonely and craving others of her kind and her true home and ‘destiny’.

At times Tess seems to have no other identity than being Max's wife, and has no opinions of her own, looking to Max to tell her what to do. At other times, she is perfectly capable and even stands up to Max.

Tess has the advantage of living with Nasedo who taught her how to use her powers as well as some memory recovery techniques, and also told her about her other life.

She is good at using her powers, from years of training, and she is particularly good at mindwarping, manipulating peoples’ minds to make them see and experience things that aren’t happing.

Tess says that living with Nasedo was hard because he was cold, and she claims not to know that he killed people over the years. Although Tess claims to love Max she is willing enough to go along with Nasedo's supposed deal with Khivar to hand over Max and the others, which will probably lead to his death.

After she moves in with the Valenti's she becomes more human and has a good relationship with them.
