In 1970, Hubble and his wife, Shelia, were on their way to celebrate their first anniversary, when he stopped at Peppers Café to get some matches for the fireworks he had purchased. He left his wife in the car, and when he returned, she was lying on the ground dead, with a silver handprint on her chest.

Hubble saw a man running away from the scene, a drifter, and assumed he was the murderer.

Two years later in 1972, Hubble, convinced Sheriff Jim Valenti Sr. to help him hunt down the alien shape ship who had killed his wife. They believed the shapeshifter was impersonating a homeless man, and tracked him. Hubble shot and killed the man, who turned out to be just a man, not an alien. This was known as the Silo murder. It is never made clear if the victim was named Silo, or if the murder happened at a silo.

Afterward, Hubble kept investigating, and found several more deaths caused by silver handprints.

In the episode ‘The Convention’, Hubble shows up in Roswell, saying he has been tracking the events of the last few months, specifically mentioning the Crashdown shooting.

He talks to Larry, one of the tourists who was present the day Liz got shot, and determines that Max Evans is worth investigating. Hubble asks Sheriff Valenti if Max is involved somehow, and Valenti says he is. Hubble thinks Max was the alien who killed his wife, Shelia. Hubble gets Max to drive him out to the Café where his wife was killed, intending to kill him, but Sheriff Valenti shows up and shoots Hubble.
