     Sheriff

 Jim Valenti

Sheriff James "Jim" Valenti, Jr is a fictional character created by Melinda Metz for the young adults book series Roswell High and adapted by Jason Katims for the 1999-2002 American science fiction television series Roswell.

Sheriff Jim Valenti is a main character of Roswell. At first a major antagonist, he later became an ally to the Pod Squad when he learned the truth. His relationship with the group was cemented after Max saved his son Kyle, after he was shot.  Some time prior to the Pilot, his wife left him and their son Kyle. Jim Valenti and Amy DeLuca, Maria's mother, have an interesting history. 20 years prior to the pilot episode Jim, at the time a Deputy, arrested Amy DeLuca during a protest. During Season 1 the two begin dating, but this soon ends after Amy is afraid she is once again making a romantic mistake. Throughout the following seasons the two continue flirting, although never rekindle their relationship officially.

Jim grew up in Roswell and is the son of the former Sheriff.

We don’t know much about his childhood, but he often felt abandoned by his father’s search for aliens. Despite this, he does practically the same thing to his son when he suspects that Max might be an alien.

Jim is relentless in his pursuit of the truth, needing proof one way or the other probably because his father’s obsession drove him insane, and he was forced to resign because of the scandal surrounding the death of a homeless man. Jim grew up with that over his head and needs to know what really happened.

He was married and has one child, his son Kyle, but his wife Michele left them when Kyle was six. Since then Jim and Kyle have lived alone. Most of the time they have a close relationship, enjoying doing ‘guy’ things together, watching sports, camping, fishing, etc.

Despite the scandal surrounding his father, Jim is respected as the Sheriff. He is known to be a good lawman, honest, loyal, intelligent, stubborn, determined, and frightening to the kids of Roswell.
